ADD-ON Organic Blood Oranges x 5

From the outside, a Blood Orange can look much like an ordinary orange.
Cut it open though, and there is that gorgeous deep red — sometimes almost burgundy — flesh.

And it turns out that colour isn’t just there to look pretty.
The colour comes from natural plant pigments called anthocyanins, the same family of colourful plant compounds responsible for many of the reds, purples and blues we see in foods such as berries.

Anthocyanins also act as antioxidants, helping protect our cells from some of the everyday “wear and tear” caused by oxidation.
The easiest way I’ve found to think about oxidation is a little like rust forming on metal.

Antioxidants are part of our body’s clean-up and protection crew.
Blood Oranges also give us that familiar orange goodness, including Vitamin C and fibre, but their flavour is slightly different from an ordinary orange too — sweet and citrusy, but often with a deeper, almost berry-like flavour.
